USATF's Mountain, Ultra & Trail (MUT) Running Council announced its 2017 runners of the year. 37-year-old Max King from Bend Oregon was named Ultra Runner of the year (2017). 34-year-old Camille Herron from Warr Acres, OK was named female Ultra Road Runner of the year (2017)

In 2013 Japanese runner Satoru Kasuya was a promising 2:11 marathoner. A few months later he almost died from cancer. On Sunday at the Osaka marathon he ran 2:19:50. Surviving his treatment, Kasuya was determined to make a comeback. In September, 2015 he ran his first race post-surgery, a 5000 m time trial. Five months later he ran a 2:20:38 marathon in Tokyo, Â following up with a 2:24:20 in Nagano this spring. On Sunday he placed 4th in 2:19:50.

Britain’s two fastest half marathon runners of all time, Sir Mo Farah and Callum Hawkins, will face each other at The Big Half, London’s brand new half marathon, on Sunday March 4. Farah – the multi-Olympic and World Championship gold medallist over 5,000m and 10,000m – will begin the new road racing chapter of his career at The Big Half. Scotland’s Hawkins, who was fourth in this year’s World Championships marathon in London, will be looking for further success on the streets of London.

Jerry Schumacher (Portland, Oregon), whose Bowerman Track Club athletes in 2017 won three medals at the IAAF World Championships, as well as an historic marathon victory, has been named USATF’s 2017 Nike Coach of the Year, USATF announced Monday. “Jerry has become one of the world’s greatest coaches, and the consistent success of his athletes is a testament to that fact,†USATF CEO Max Siegel said. “He and his athletes have helped lead the resurgence in American distance running."

Ugandan Stephen Kiprotich, the 2012 Olympic and 2013 world champion, will take on Bidan Karoki and defending champion Yemane Tsegaye at the 71st annual Fukuoka Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label Road Race, on December 3 in Fukuoka, Japan.

The Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon and 1/2 Marathon got a revamped course for 2017.
Course changes were made to accommodate downtown construction while keeping iconic and historic sites on the race path, according to a press release sent Tuesday morning.
