Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi has once again stamped his authority on the men’s 800m, producing a commanding performance in Brussels to claim his fourth consecutive Diamond League Final title in spectacular fashion.

The Olympic champion delivered when it mattered most, surging clear of a fiercely competitive field and crossing the finish line in a brilliant 1:41.80. The performance not only secured another Diamond Trophy for the Kenyan star but also established a new meeting record, further underlining his remarkable consistency at the highest level of the sport.

Wanyonyi controlled the race with characteristic confidence before unleashing his decisive move in the closing stages. Once he found another gear, his rivals could only watch as the Kenyan pulled away, transforming a tightly contested final into another memorable victory for one of the world's most formidable 800m runners.

Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati produced an impressive run to finish second in 1:42.71, while France’s Yanis Meziane completed the podium in 1:42.87, smashing his personal best in a breakthrough performance on one of athletics’ biggest stages.

Meziane’s outstanding run carried an additional reward. As the highest finisher in the field who had not already secured qualification, his personal-best performance earned him a place at the World Ultimate Championships, adding another significant milestone to an already memorable night.

For Wanyonyi, however, the spotlight belonged entirely to his extraordinary achievement. Four Diamond League Finals, four victories and four Diamond Trophies — a level of dominance that places him in truly elite company.

His latest triumph is more than another title. The World Athletics Indoor Championships began on March 21, 2025, in Nanjing, China, featuring outstanding performances across various events.

Matheus Lima da Silva Sets South American Record

Brazil’s Matheus Lima da Silva set a new South American indoor record in the men’s 400 meters, clocking 45.79 seconds to win his heat and advance to the semifinals.  

Triple Jump Gold for Andy Díaz Hernández

Italy’s Andy Díaz Hernández secured gold in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 17.80 meters, setting a new Italian record. China’s Zhu Yaming took silver with 17.33 meters, and Brazil’s Almir Dos Santos earned bronze with 17.22 meters.  

Jeremiah Azu Triumphs in Men’s 60 Meters

Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu won the men’s 60 meters final, recording a personal best of 6.49 seconds. Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy finished second in 6.50 seconds, and South Africa’s Akani Simbine claimed bronze with 6.54 seconds.  

Woo Sang-hyeok Wins High Jump

South Korea’s Woo Sang-hyeok claimed gold in the men’s high jump, clearing 2.31 meters. New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr and Jamaica’s Raymond Richards both cleared 2.28 meters, earning silver and bronze respectively based on countback rules.

Strong Performances in Middle-Distance Events

In the men’s 800 meters heats, France’s Yanis Meziane led with a time of 1:46.07, followed by the USA’s Brandon Miller at 1:46.47, and Puerto Rico’s John Rivera at 1:46.84.  

The opening day set a high standard, with athletes delivering exceptional performances and setting the stage for an exciting competition ahead.
