Tragic Loss: Brooklyn Runner Katie Suarez, 28, Dies After Being Stabbed While Out Running As Police Hunt For Her Attacker!

The running community in New York has been left heartbroken following the tragic death of 28-year-old runner Katie Suarez, who succumbed to her injuries after being brutally stabbed while out on a run in Brooklyn. Her death has sparked renewed calls for justice and greater safety for runners using public pathways.

Suarez was attacked at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, while running along the Shore Parkway Greenway in the Bath Beach neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. She suffered a stab wound to the neck and was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she remained on life support for three days. According to her family, she sadly died on Monday night.

More than a week after the horrific incident, investigators have yet to make an arrest, and the person responsible remains at large. Police believe the attack may have been random, with no indication that anything was stolen from Suarez.

The investigation has become particularly challenging because the section of the greenway where she was attacked reportedly has no streetlights or surveillance cameras. Detectives have therefore turned their attention to the nearby Belt Parkway, hoping that passing motorists may provide crucial evidence.

A license plate reader recorded approximately 1,700 vehicles travelling along the highway between 7:56 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. on the night of the attack. Investigators are now working to identify the drivers and determine whether any dashcam footage captured something that could help establish what happened. A dedicated task force has also been established, while authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to a breakthrough in the case.

Katie lived near the running route and had worked at a nearby TD Bank branch for five years. She was passionate about running and had participated in races organized by New York Road Runners, making her death an especially painful loss for the local running community.

Her mother, Yasira, has made an emotional public appeal for justice, hoping that anyone with information will come forward and help identify the person responsible for taking her daughter's life.

A community vigil was organized for Wednesday as family members, friends and neighbors came together to remember Katie and demand answers. The tragedy has also intensified concerns about the safety of the Shore Parkway Greenway, with residents calling for improved lighting, surveillance cameras and stronger security measures to protect people using the pathway.

Police are urging anyone who was driving along the Belt Parkway or using the Shore Parkway Greenway on Friday evening, October 30, particularly around the time of the attack, to come forward with any information, photographs or dashcam footage that could assist investigators.

Anyone with information can contact NYPD Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-577-TIPS.

Katie Suarez went out for a run and never returned home. What should have been an ordinary evening of pursuing her passion ended in an unimaginable tragedy.

Her family deserves answers, and the running community deserves to feel safe on the roads and pathways where athletes train every day.
