Ezekiel Kemboi Omullo Leads Kenyan Dominance At Kuala Lumpur Marathon

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — Ezekiel Kemboi Omullo emerged victorious at the 2026 Kuala Lumpur Marathon, leading an impressive Kenyan performance as athletes from the East African nation claimed nine of the top 10 positions in the men’s race.

Omullo produced a winning performance of 2:21:15, edging compatriot John Nzau Mwangangi, who finished second in 2:21:23. Moses Kibet Kipsang completed the podium in 2:21:34, giving Kenya a clean sweep of the first three places.

The contest at the front was remarkably close, with the leading Kenyan athletes separated by only seconds. Samuel Kalalei matched Kipsang’s time of 2:21:34 to finish fourth, while James Tallam followed closely in fifth with 2:21:40.

Kenya’s strong showing continued with Julius Kipkorir Tuwei, who crossed the line sixth in 2:22:10. Ethiopia’s Asmera Tamiru Beshir was the only athlete from outside Kenya among the first seven, finishing seventh in 2:22:28.

The Kenyan dominance resumed behind Beshir, with Vincent Kipsang Mutai taking eighth in 2:23:08. Edwin Cheruiyot Soi finished ninth in 2:23:53, while Felix Kipsang Mutai completed the top 10 in 2:25:24.

The narrow margins among the front-runners made the men’s race particularly competitive. Omullo’s eight-second advantage over Mwangangi was the largest gap separating the top two, while Kipsang and Kalalei could not be separated on the clock after both recorded 2:21:34.

For Kenya, the result underlined the depth of its marathon talent. Nine of the 10 leading finishers came from Kenya, with the country occupying every position from first through sixth before Beshir interrupted the sequence in seventh.

Omullo ultimately took the headline victory, but the wider performance from the Kenyan contingent was equally striking. From the opening positions through the closing places of the top 10, Kenya maintained a commanding presence on the Kuala Lumpur results sheet.

Kenya Rules São Paulo as Marathon Brilliance Lights Up Brazil

Kenyan distance running once again announced its global supremacy in emphatic fashion as Team Kenya produced a commanding display at the 2026 São Paulo Marathon in Brazil, sweeping the men’s podium and claiming two of the three places in the women’s race.

From the opening kilometers to the final stride, the streets of São Paulo became a stage for Kenyan excellence, with world-class endurance, tactical discipline, and fearless finishing proving too strong for the international field.

In the women’s race, Euliter Jepchirchir Tanui delivered a composed and authoritative performance to secure victory in 2:33:06. Running with confidence and control, Tanui timed her race superbly before pulling clear when it mattered most to seal a memorable triumph.

Ethiopia’s Desta Abera Demise fought hard to take second place in 2:37:12, while another Kenyan star, Vivian Jeftanui Kiplagat, completed the podium in 2:38:52, ensuring Kenya celebrated two medal positions in the women’s contest.

If the women’s race was impressive, the men’s event was a complete Kenyan masterclass.

Ezekiel Kemboi Omullo stormed to victory in 2:12:47, holding off a relentless challenge in one of the closest finishes of the day. Just six seconds behind, fellow Kenyan Elias Maiyo crossed in 2:12:53, while Jonathan Maiyo completed an extraordinary clean sweep for Kenya in 2:13:16.

The all-Kenyan podium underlined the nation’s unmatched depth in marathon running, where fresh talent continues to rise and established names continue to deliver on the biggest stages.

The 2026 São Paulo Marathon will be remembered not only for fast times and fierce competition, but for another powerful chapter in Kenya’s rich athletics legacy. Across continents and across generations, Kenyan runners continue to set the standard—unstoppable, unshaken, and simply uncontrollable.

São Paulo Marathon Set for High-Calibre Showdown as Elite Field Assembles

The stage is set for a compelling distance-running spectacle in São Paulo, Brazil where an accomplished and diverse elite field will converge on April 12 for the latest edition of the São Paulo Marathon. With a blend of proven performers and emerging contenders, the race promises both tactical intrigue and high-quality performances across the board.

Leading the men’s lineup is Kenya’s Jonathan Maiyo, the standout entrant on paper with a personal best of 2:04:56. Known for his consistency and strength over the marathon distance, Maiyo enters as the man to beat, carrying both experience and pedigree into the Brazilian streets.

He will be closely challenged by compatriots Ezekiel Kemboi Omullo (2:08:26) and William Kibor (2:08:32), both of whom bring solid credentials and the capacity to influence the pace. With such depth among the Kenyan trio, the men’s race could unfold into a strategic battle rather than a straightforward time trial, especially if conditions play a role.

In the women’s contest, Uganda’s Nancy Cheptegei headlines the field with a personal best of 2:31:45. She faces stiff competition from Kenya’s Vivian Jeftanui Kiplagat (2:37:14) and Edna Jeruto Kimitei (2:43:15), both eager to challenge for top honors and potentially upset the pre-race hierarchy.

Beyond the statistics, the São Paulo Marathon is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and demanding course, factors that often shape unpredictable outcomes. The combination of urban energy, climatic variables, and tactical racing typically ensures that victories are earned through resilience as much as raw speed.

As the countdown to race day narrows, anticipation continues to build. Whether it’s a dominant display from the favorites or a breakthrough performance from an outsider, all signs point to a gripping contest in one of South America’s premier road races.

KATA’s Donald Kimaru Finishes 4th at 2025 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon

The 2025 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon delivered a thrilling showcase of endurance on October 26, as top athletes battled it out on the streets of Nairobi under ideal racing conditions. This year’s event, one of the premier marathons on the African continent, once again attracted a deep field of elite talent.

Among the day’s standout performances was Donald Kimaru, a KATA athlete training out of the Kapcherop KATA Running Camp, who finished a remarkable 4th place in a highly competitive men’s race.

Donald Kimaru: Fuelled by KATA, Ready for the Global Stage

Clocking a time of 2:12:02, Kimaru finished just over a minute behind the winner, Benard Chepkowny (2:11:01), and less than 30 seconds from the podium. It was a huge breakthrough for the rising long-distance runner, who trains under the high-altitude guidance of Coach Philemon Kipruto at the KATA facility in Kapcherop.

“Donald is showing the power of patience and consistency,” Coach Kipruto noted. “We’ve known he had the potential, and now he’s proving it in one of Kenya’s most important races.”

Chepkwony, returning to major competition, wasted no time asserting his intent. He set a strong pace from the start, joined by Silas Chesang, Donald Kimaru, Ezekiel Kemboi, Bethwel Chemuno, and Wilfred Kiplagat, all determined to stay in contention.

As the race progressed past the 30km mark, Chepkwony maintained the lead despite Chesang mounting a late push after struggling on the uphill sections.

Chepkwony’s endurance and composure carried him through to the finish line, clocking an impressive 2:11:01 to seal his comeback victory.

Kimaru trains in an environment designed to create champions, where runners combine disciplined training with the nutritional strength of KATA Potatoes – The Fuel of Champions. His performance in Nairobi is a testament to this holistic approach. Donald had placed second at the KATA Double Road Race 15k held September 20 in Thika.

Runners like Donald are not only developing as athletes but also helping uplift their communities.

Next for Donald? A potential international marathon debut in 2026, where he’ll look to break the 2:10 barrier and cement his name among Kenya’s top marathoners.
