MRB FAST FACT: Brent Weigner, 68-year-old from Cheyenne Wyoming, has run a marathon or ultra in 148 different countries as of Dec 2 according to the Country Marathon Club that keeps track of records. In 1979 Brent ran his best marathon (2:45:50) in Boston. By 1999 he had completed a marathon on all seven continents. At least 53 of the 148 were ultras including six 150 mile stage races. He ran his first marathon June 30, 1968 in 3:53 at the Whitewater Marathon in Wisconsin.

Ted Corbitt Classic 15K is this weekend in Central Park. A distance running pioneer and the co-founder and first president of NYRR, Ted Corbitt had a unique dedication to the sport and a passion for excellence that carried over into every aspect of his life. He completed an incredible lifetime total of 223 marathons and ultramarathons. His training, which routinely included 200-mile weeks, was more than just preparation for racing. It was a lifestyle that has inspired many who came after him.

The 3rd annual My Best Runs Best 100 list was released today. "There are so many good races," says MBR and Runner's World magazine founder Bob Anderson. "Our editors feel these are the world's best 100." Here are some stats: 49 marathons, 19 Half Marathons, 13 10K's, 4 ultras, 27 countries, over $10 million of prize money and even through almost all of these feature a pro race, the average runner can participant too. "These are the best, most interesting and unique races," says Anderson.

Created in conjunction with Breaking2, Nike’s attempt to enable the first sub-two-hour marathon, the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% was designed with the goal of helping the world’s fastest marathoners run their best.
The tooling features new Nike ZoomX foam that is ultra-lightweight, soft and capable of providing up to 85- percent energy return. Shalane Flanagan wore this shoe and won the NYC marathon, the first American woman in forty years.

USATF's Mountain, Ultra & Trail (MUT) Running Council announced its 2017 runners of the year. 37-year-old Max King from Bend Oregon was named Ultra Runner of the year (2017). 34-year-old Camille Herron from Warr Acres, OK was named female Ultra Road Runner of the year (2017)
