China’s teenage sprint sensation Yujie Chen has produced another landmark performance, powering to women’s 100m gold at the Asian Games in Nagoya while lowering her own Asian U20 record.

The 17-year-old stopped the clock at 11.06 seconds into a -0.4 m/s headwind, delivering a composed performance on the biggest stage of her young career. Despite the unfavourable wind, Chen maintained her speed through the closing metres and crossed the finish line clear of her closest challengers.

Singapore’s Shanti Pereira secured the silver medal in 11.21 seconds, while Bahrain’s Edidiong Odiong completed the podium with 11.33 seconds to take bronze.

Chen’s victory is another major milestone in what has quickly become one of the most exciting sprinting journeys in Asian athletics. Still only 17, she has continued to lower her times and demonstrate the kind of speed and consistency that has placed her among the continent’s emerging sprint talents.

The Chinese youngster entered the final carrying considerable expectations, but she responded with confidence when it mattered most. Rather than being overwhelmed by the occasion, Chen produced a controlled and powerful run, translating her recent progress into a major championship victory.

For Pereira, the 11.21 silver adds another major championship podium to her decorated career, while Odiong’s 11.33 earned her a hard-fought bronze in a competitive final.
