Hungary’s Lili Anna Vindics-Tóth delivered a remarkable performance at the 48th Warsaw Marathon on Sunday, September 27, 2026, smashing the Hungarian marathon record and setting a new women’s course record with a stunning time of 2:24:48.

Vindics-Tóth produced a breakthrough performance on the streets of the Polish capital, improving her previous personal best of 2:27:21 by more than two minutes. Her 2:24:48 also eclipsed the previous Warsaw Marathon women’s course record of 2:28:35 by almost four minutes.

The Hungarian’s performance was particularly significant, as she became the fastest woman ever recorded over the marathon distance in a race held in Poland, according to the race organizers.

Her remarkable run also represented a major improvement on her previous 2026 best of 2:27:28, recorded in Copenhagen in May. The new Hungarian record marks a defining moment in her career and places her among Europe’s leading marathon runners.

Vindics-Tóth Leads Historic Women’s Podium

Vindics-Tóth secured the women’s title in 2:24:48, narrowly holding off Ethiopia’s Gelane Senbete, who finished second in 2:24:57.

Kenya’s Vivian Jerotich Kosgei claimed third place in 2:28:34, while Ethiopia’s Addis Alem Belay completed the top four in 2:30:31.

The women’s race produced a competitive contest at the front, with Vindics-Tóth’s record-breaking performance highlighting the growing depth of international distance running in Europe.

Stephen Kibor Leads Men’s Race

Kenya’s Stephen Kibor claimed overall victory in the men’s marathon, crossing the finish line in 2:09:19 to secure the title in Warsaw.

Kibor led an international podium, with Uganda’s Victor Kwemboi finishing second in 2:12:20, followed by compatriot Ezekiel Mutai, who took third place in 2:12:36.

Sweden’s Emil Millán de la Oliva completed the top four in 2:13:13, rounding off a competitive men’s race featuring athletes from several countries.

Kibor’s victory added another Kenyan success to the country’s long history of producing elite marathon runners who have excelled on major European road-racing courses.

International Field Takes on Warsaw’s Streets

The 48th Warsaw Marathon began at 9:00 a.m. around Świętokrzyska Street, near the Palace of Culture and Science, with the certified 42.195-kilometre course taking runners through the Polish capital.

This year’s edition attracted an international elite field alongside thousands of mass-participation runners, with spectators lining the streets to support the athletes throughout the race.

The organizers had targeted a significant improvement to the women’s course record, with pacemakers assigned to support a pace corresponding to approximately 2:24–2:26.

Vindics-Tóth ultimately delivered a performance that surpassed expectations, turning the Warsaw Marathon into the biggest race of her career so far and etching her name into the event’s history.

The Warsaw Marathon has remained a major fixture on the European road-running calendar since its first edition in 1979, continuing to attract elite athletes and recreational runners from around the world.

With a Hungarian national record, a new women’s course record and an impressive international podium, the 2026 edition produced a memorable day of marathon racing in the Polish capital.

The Warsaw Marathon is set to deliver an intriguing international contest on 27 September, with a competitive field featuring athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Chile and Hungary.

The men’s race brings together four runners with strong marathon credentials, led by Kenya’s Stephen Kibor, who owns a personal best of 2:09:33. He will face Ethiopia’s Daniel Tola, a 2:09:55 performer, while Uganda’s Victor Kwemboi enters with a 2:09:35 personal best.

Adding an international dimension to the field is Chilean marathon record-holder Hugo Catrileo, whose personal best of 2:08:44 makes him the fastest athlete on the listed start sheet. Catrileo will be looking to translate his proven ability over the marathon distance into a strong performance on Warsaw’s streets.

The women’s race is equally compelling, with Kenya represented by Sharon Jemutai Cherop and Vivian Jerotich. Cherop brings a personal best of 2:22:28, while Jerotich has a best of 2:26:41, giving the Kenyan pair considerable experience and speed over the classic 42.195-kilometre distance.

Ethiopia’s Gelane Senbete, with a personal best of 2:26:28, will add further depth to the women’s field, while Hungary’s Lili Vindics-Toth, who has run 2:27:21, completes the selected quartet.

With athletes from several strong distance-running nations converging on the Polish capital, the Warsaw Marathon promises a fascinating battle of experience, endurance and international ambition.

For the leading contenders, the race will provide another opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition, while the diverse field should make for an engaging contest from the opening kilometres through to the finish line.

Enock Kinyamal came first in the ASML Marathon. The Kenian widened the gap between himself and his competitors and finished at 2.06.28, four minutes faster than his previous personal record.

The top athletes ran as a group for a long time. However, near the finish of the fortieth edition of the Eindhoven Marathon, Kimyamal proved the other runners were no match for him. Then again, his time did not approach the course record, established at 2.04.52 by last year’s winner  Kenneth Kipkemoi.

Fastest Dutchman

Manuel de Backer was the fastest Dutchman, finishing at 2.16.58, managing to lower his personal record by almost a minute. “Every step in the final kilometre was a battle. But when I reached the city centre and everyone shouted my name, I was immensely happy. Now for a bit of rest and then it’s time for the afterglow. With a few beers, yes”

Women

Kenia ruled supreme among the women for the entire duration of the marathon. Winner Vivian Jerotich clocked at 2.26.41. The half-marathon was won by Ties van den Hurk from Nijmegen, at 1.06.34. The fastest woman is Jamie van Lieshout from Bergeijk (1.18.56).

A Dutch and a Belgian runner came first in the quarter marathon. Jesse Holten was the fastest man at 34.45. Tine Vandenborne was the first woman to cross the finish line. She ran her distance in 39.08.

The Kenyan and the Ethiopian claimed victory in the 23rd edition of the event, marked by the record number of participants with 21,000 runners

Kipkorir and Ethiopian Aberash Shilima Kebeda were awarded victory at the twenty-third edition of the Madrid Movistar Half Marathon, marked by the participant record with 21,000 runners and the presence as godparents of Portuguese Rosa Mota and Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie

The Kenyan Mike Kipkorir and the Ethiopian Kikkorir took the victory in the men's category after a final attack that found no response from their pursuers, reaching the finish line in 1h01:07, thirteen seconds less than the Ugandan Ezekiel Mutai.

The first Spaniard at the finish line was Ayad Lamdassem, tenth at the finish line, with 1h06:45.

In the women's category, the Ethiopian Aberash Shilima Kebeda dominated the test quite well to take the victory with 1h08:31, almost a minute and a half ahead of her pursuers, the Kenyans Beatrice Nyaboke Begi and Vivian Jerotich Kosgei, second and third, respectively.

Clara Simal from Madrid, from the Marathon Sports Group, organizer of the event, was once again the first Spanish finisher, also repeating the ninth place overall that she already achieved in 2023.

ProFuturo Career

The ProFuturo 5km Race was also held parallel to the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon. This solidarity test was born in 2016 with a clear objective: running for education.

The victory went to Claudia Moreno (20:15) in the women's category and to Sergio Salinero (17:20) in the men's category

The Paralympic athlete Lorenzo Albaladejo, considered the best athlete with cerebral palsy in the history of Spain in speed events, also completed the test, as did Rosa Mota, the Portuguese marathon runner, holder of the triple crown with an Olympic, World Cup and European marathon.
