The 2026 POG Perenco 10K delivered another thrilling showcase of East African distance-running excellence, with Kenya and Ethiopia producing outstanding performances in both the men's and women's races.
In the men's race, Owen Korir Kapkama produced a commanding run to capture the title in 27:49, leading a remarkable Kenyan clean sweep of the podium. Kapkama crossed the line seven seconds ahead of compatriot Brian Kibor, who finished second in 27:56, while Filex Kibet Masai secured third place in 28:27. Ethiopia's Meniberu Yismaw narrowly missed out on the podium after finishing fourth in 28:32.
The women's race belonged to Loice Chemnung of Kenya, who delivered a superb performance to take victory in 30:52. Chemnung's decisive run proved too strong for the Ethiopian challengers, adding another prestigious international road racing title to Kenya's impressive tally.
Ethiopia filled the remaining podium places, with Abraha Axumawit claiming second in 31:25, just two seconds ahead of compatriot Gebre Aynalem, who finished third in 31:27. Mogesie Bosena completed an outstanding Ethiopian team performance by placing fourth in 31:38.
The results reflected the enduring rivalry between Kenya and Ethiopia, with Kenya dominating the men's event and securing the women's crown, while Ethiopia showcased its remarkable depth by occupying three of the top four positions in the women's race. The fast times and fiercely contested battles once again highlighted why East Africa continues to set the global standard in distance running.

Against the stunning backdrop of the Czech capital, Kwizera didn’t just claim victory—he obliterated the course record, storming across the finish line in a sensational 58:16.
From the opening kilometers, the tempo was uncompromising, a relentless rhythm that tested even the most seasoned contenders. Yet as the race unfolded along Prague’s historic streets, it became increasingly clear that this was Kwizera’s moment. With remarkable composure and surgical timing, he unleashed a decisive surge in the latter stages, breaking free from a tightly packed lead group and powering into the finish with authority.
Behind him, the battle for the podium added another layer of intensity to an already electric race. Kenya’s Samwel Chebolei Masai ran a superb race to secure second place in 58:48, while compatriot Owen Korir Kapkama completed the podium, clocking 58:58 in a thrilling sprint finish. Their performances underscored the depth of talent in the field, but on this day, they were chasing a man operating on an entirely different level.
Further down the standings, the depth of East African dominance remained evident, with Ethiopia’s Tadese Worku Gebresilase narrowly missing the podium in fourth (58:58), followed by Kenya’s James Kipkogei Kipkoech (59:32) and Kalipus Lomwai (59:44). A strong showing continued with Moses Cheruiyot (1:00:00), Leonard Barsoton (1:00:35), Yonah Kiprop Mateiko (1:01:17), and Teshome Mekonen of the United States rounding out the top ten in 1:01:47.
What unfolded in Prague was more than just a race—it was a statement etched in speed and courage. Kwizera didn’t simply win; he redefined the limits of what is possible on this course, delivering a performance that will echo far beyond the cobblestone streets where it was born. In one unforgettable morning, he elevated himself from contender to global force, igniting belief across a nation and sending a clear message to the world: a new era is here, and it runs at 58:16.

On the fast streets of Seville, the world witnessed a men’s race decided in the final strides and a women’s performance that redefined the course itself.
From the opening kilometers, the men’s elite field set an uncompromising tempo, with a tightly packed lead group refusing to give an inch. As the kilometers clicked away, it became clear that victory would not be earned early, but fought for to the very end.
That prediction proved true in dramatic fashion. With just 300 meters remaining, France’s Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse summoned a perfectly timed kick, surging clear in a furious sprint to snatch victory in 1:00:24. His move caught the field at full stretch, and although Kenya’s Owen Korir Kapkama responded instantly, the line arrived a fraction too soon. Kapkama finished second in 1:00:25, separated from gold by the narrowest of margins. Fellow Kenyan Jonathan Kipkoech Kamosong completed the podium in 1:00:33, capping a race defined by intensity and precision.
Behind the leaders, the international depth of the race was on full display. Eritrea’s Melkeneh Azize Abebe and Belgium’s Simon Debognies rounded out the top five, while the home crowd found its moment of celebration as Spain’s Roberto Alaiz emerged as the leading Spanish finisher in 1:03:55, drawing loud applause along the course.
As the echoes of the men’s sprint finish faded, the women’s race unfolded with a different but equally compelling narrative — one of control, confidence, and historic speed.
Ethiopia’s Zeineba Yimer Worku asserted her authority early, running with smooth efficiency and relentless rhythm. Kilometer by kilometer, she extended her advantage, turning the race into a personal exhibition of elite road-running excellence. When she crossed the finish line in 1:06:33, it was more than a victory — it was a statement. Her performance established a new Seville Half Marathon course record and stood out as one of the finest women’s road-running displays of the season.
In one unforgettable morning on 25 January, the Seville Half Marathon 2026 delivered drama measured in hundredths of a second and history written in bold new numbers — a true celebration of global road racing at its finest.
