Beatrice Chepkoech Sets Her Sights on Sub-15 Glory at Inaugural Antrim Coast 5K

Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech is set to bring her world-class pedigree to the inaugural Antrim Coast 5K on Sunday, August 23, with the world 3000m steeplechase record holder targeting a remarkable sub-15-minute performance on the fast Northern Irish course.

For Chepkoech, the race represents more than another appearance on the road. It is an opportunity to test her speed and endurance over 5 kilometres while pursuing a time that would underline the extraordinary range of one of Kenya’s most accomplished distance athletes.

The former world champion has built her reputation through years of excellence on the track, most notably in the 3000m steeplechase, where her world-record performance established her among the finest athletes the event has ever produced. Her move to the Antrim Coast 5K adds another intriguing chapter to her already distinguished career.

A sub-15-minute clocking would be a significant statement on the road, particularly given the calibre of athlete attempting it. Chepkoech will arrive with the experience, competitive instinct and proven finishing speed required to make the challenge compelling, while the fast nature of the Antrim Coast course could provide the ideal platform for an ambitious performance.

However, the Kenyan star will not have the spotlight to herself.

The men’s race is expected to provide its own major attraction, with Ethiopia’s Ermais Girma among the headline names in a strong international field. His presence adds further depth to an event designed to bring together elite athletes and ambitious teams on a course where fast racing is expected to be at the heart of the action.

Ireland and Scotland will also add an international dimension, fielding teams that will turn the inaugural event into much more than a straightforward individual contest. With athletes competing for personal ambitions while representing their respective teams, the Antrim Coast 5K promises a fascinating race within a race.

For Chepkoech, though, the equation is simple: arrive ready, embrace the pace and chase the clock.

A sub-15-minute performance would give the Kenyan superstar another impressive mark to her name and provide a fitting headline for the first edition of the Antrim Coast 5K. With her reputation for attacking races and her ability to deliver under pressure, all eyes will be on Chepkoech when the field takes to the fast Antrim Coast course.

Sunday’s race could therefore become an important showcase of just how much speed remains in the legs of one of Kenya’s most celebrated champions—and whether Chepkoech can turn her bold sub-15 ambition into reality.
