Cuba's Anisleidis Ochoa Suárez delivered a remarkable finishing kick to storm to victory in the women's 5,000m final at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, earning the gold medal in a dramatic battle that went down to the final lap.

Nicknamed "La Polaca," Ochoa showcased exceptional composure throughout the race before unleashing a devastating final-lap sprint that left her rivals unable to respond. Her perfectly timed acceleration carried her across the finish line in 16:57.67, securing Cuba's first-place finish in one of the closest distance races of the championships.
