A Little History:
"We wanted to create a traditional city marathon on par with those in New York, Berlin or London. In addition to the full marathon, we wanted to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among people of all ages, interests and occupations. We have prepared a number of non-competitive short-distance runs for those who are not yet ready to run the marathon or the half marathon," said Carlo Capalbo, president of PIM.
The Prague International Marathon originated in 1995 and has been on the fast track to international acclaim since then. The marathon founders including C. Capalbo had no idea how successful the first edition would be. 958 runners flooded the streets of Prague in June 1995 and the number grew to over 4,000 ten years later. Another 10,000 people took part in the short-distance non-competitive runs at this time as well.
Marathon runners around the world associate the race specifically with its visually stunning course. The PIM ranks among the ten greatest marathons in the world in the book entitled The Greatest Marathons in History by Italian
Four years after the foundation of the Prague International Marathon, the organizers decided to introduce a half marathon for Prague runners. The Half Marathon is becoming the most popular event of the PIM Running series. Every year thousands of runners take part in this demanding and fast paced race. They take in the beautiful scenery while preparing for the start on the Charles Bridge.A number of running magazines from around the world included the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon among the top ten or even top five half marathons in the world!
PIM has been expanding and introducing new races such as the September Grand Prix, In-line races, and the Junior Marathon (all since 1997). The Marathon Music Festival (since 1999) has provided musical accompaniment at all PIM events.
In 2012 we launched the RunCzech running league at RunCzech.com, comprising three races held in Prague (marathon, half marathon, Grand Prix) and three half marathons taking place in Ceske Budajovice, Olomouc and Ústí nad Labem. In 2013 we added the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon. In 2014, all of these races drew in 69,807 participants. One of the new features of this series is the running league ranking which awards points to the runners for each completed race

The Covered Bridges Half Marathon was first run in 1992. Race founder David Chioffi and a group of community members got together to create a half marathon along some of the best running routes around Woodstock, Vermont. The course they designed was unique because of the four covered bridges along the way, two of which the runners ran through. After building a mailing list of over 4,000 names, the race had nearly 400 runners that first year.
Like many races, the course was adjusted several times in the first few years to address traffic and parking concerns, as well as the growing popularity of the race. The current course has been in place since 1997. The popularity of the race has continued to rise, reaching 2,900 registrants in 2001.
The race was scaled back in 2002 to 2,000 registrants in order to maintain the small feel of the race and in response to reduced parking capacity. The race has grown very slowly to the present cap of 2,300 runners. The on-line registration fills quickly each year, usually in a few minutes from the time that it “goes live.”
The race is organized by a completely volunteer staff, under the corporate umbrella of CBHM, Inc., a non-profit corporation formed specifically to organize running events and donate the proceeds to charity.
The race donates more than $50,000 each year to local non-profit groups focused on youth activities and youth sports in the Upper Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire

Race Testimonials
Mike and Bill,
Thank YOU for putting on such a great race! My husband and I have run this ten times. It keeps getting better. This year was phenomenal! You even got fantastic weather for us! Thank you for all you do to make it such a special race! It truly is the best 13.1 miles in New England. And all your volunteers are terrific. Can’t thank them enough for all they do by coming out to support us on a Sunday morning when they could be sleeping in. Please let them know how much we appreciate them as well!
It is aprivilege to run in this race and thank YOU for making it so!!
You are the BEST!!! Thankfully, Pat K
HI Everyone:
Mike, I sure I am speaking from all of us when I say, "Kudos, for another excellent CBHM!". The day was perfect for the race and all of our runners had a great time, many of them are already planning to come back next year. And I LOVED the bright melon volunteer shirts! Those really stood out!
I really appreciate how we all work so well together. I think our idea of sharing massage therapists is a good one, so which ever therapist is available can take the next person in line. The Charity sign at our Finish tent was a nice way to shield and provide a bit of privacy for the massages - that may not have been the intention, but it was helpful.
I have someone's small tarp. All the best. Cathy
Mike,
Just wanted to say "thanks" for allowing me to bea part of the Covered Bridges Run this year. What a great event!! Everything, from the spaghetti dinner to the race to the after race activities, was just phenomenal. The support from the local community was awesome and I know that they, as well as you and Bill, put in a tremendous amount of time and energy into making the event happen.
My family andI really enjoyedthe weekend in Vermont and we were able to checkout some of the great places to visit like the Marsh, Billings, Rockefeller National Historic Site, Quechee Gorge, and the Coolidge Birthplace in Plymouth. We are looking forward to spending some more time in Vermont this summer.
Thanks again for letting me run and I look forward to being a part of the silver anniversary race next year. Best wishes, Todd
