Kenyan Kibiwott Kandie shines at the Prague half marathon

Kenya Defence Forces’ Kibiwott Kandie won the 2020 Prague men’s Half Marathon in 58 minutes and 38 seconds on Saturday morning.

It was a largely lone affair for the soldier after he broke away from the Kenyan-dominated field at the 10km mark under a hot atmospheric condition.

“It's difficult to run alone,” said Kandie whose performance makes him the fifth fastest man over the distance with the sixth fastest performance of all-time.

Kandie staged a good run early in the year, winning the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon in February with a world-leading 58:58, six days after his triumph at the fiercely competitive National Cross-Country Championships. But then the Coronavirus pandemic staggered his momentum. In March, Kandie was also named to the Kenyan team for the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships.

“My wish is to run again when this pandemic is over. It will be a pleasure to continue competing,”he added.

Kandie’s performance relegated Philemon Kiplimo to second place with a time of 59:56 as Benson Kipruto came in third in 1:00:06.

Making it to the top 10 finishers were Amos Kurgat who clocked 1:00:20 for the fourth position, Felix Kipkoech was fifth in 1:00:40 and Timothy Kibet stopped his timer on 1:00:47 for the sixth place. Others are Benard Kimeli who timed 1:01:00, Abel Kipchumba (1:01:02), Bravin Kipkogei (1:01:23) and Alfred Chelal (1:01:32).

Rock The Parkway

Saturday April 12th, 2025
Kansas City, Mo
Distance: Half Marathon · 5K
Offical Race Web Site

Rock the Parkway was founded in 2010 as a half marathon, 10K and 5K run/walk. The race has been a partnership between KC Running Company and Burns & McDonnell since the beginning, with Burns & McDonnell serving as the host of the event at its world headquarters on Ward Parkway in Kansas City. The partners selected Science City at Union Station as the charity partner and have worked with them since the beginning to support their educational efforts. Science City has opened its doors to race participants during the event weekend for the last several years.

The course for Rock the Parkway has not changed a great deal over the years, and the only significant change with the event occurred when the 10K run/walk was eliminated in 2012 to reduce congestion at the start and finish, improving the race experience for participants. Growing from a first-year response of 3,700 registrants on a cool and wet day in 2010 to nearly 8,500 registrants in 2014, the event is one of the largest running events in the area.

Course records for the half marathon were set by Kim Reed on the women's side (1:16:26) in 2015 and by Joe Moore (1:05:32) in 2015.

Rock The Parkway

The Rock the Parkway course, along historic Ward Parkway, is one of the most scenic in the Midwest. The fairly flat terrain, together with the long downhill finish, makes it one of the fastest half marathon courses in the area. It has been voted Best Race Course by area runners, year after year.

The USATF-certified course will:

  • Be well marked with traffic cones, turn arrows, pavement marking and large mile markers
  • Be closed to traffic
  • Have numerous aid stations for participants with water and sports drink
  • Have several bands along the course

Crescent City Classic 10k

Saturday April 19th, 2025
New Orleans, Louisiana
Distance: 10K
Offical Race Web Site

The Crescent City Classic isannual 10-kilometer race held in New Orleans, Louisiana,United States. Mac DeVaughn founded the Classic and held the first race in 1979. The race was originally held in the Fall, but the race is now held the Saturday before Easter.

The Classic is New Orleans’ (and the region’s) premier 10k road race, and one of the oldest 10k races in the nation. For over 40 years, it has combined world class competition, amateur participation and great fun for all participants. Starting in 1979 with 902 participants, the All state Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic has grown to become the preeminent fitness event in Louisiana. This Easter Weekend Tradition is now, along with Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest, one of New Orleans signature events.

Each year, over 20,000 people gather in Downtown New Orleans for an event that attracts everyone from international Elite Athletes to those who walk the entire route carrying cocktails or wearing bunny suits. Young, old, fit and not so, the Crescent City Classic was the first 10k to be televised nationally, and is, to this day, perhaps the most fun you can have over 6.2 miles. The Classic has been praised in every major running publication as “one of America’s fastest 10k’s”, “the originator of the party race”, “an Easter Weekend tradition that should never be missed” and “a great race, on a beautiful course in America’s most unique city”.

This is a great tour of New Orleans. What is very unique is that Commemorative Race Posters are given to the Top 500 Finishers, a unique Crescent City Classic award tradition. I have won two and they look great and mine is hanging above my fireplace.
