The Athens Classic (authentic) Marathon is an annual marathon road race held in Athens, Greece, normally in early November. The race attracted 43.000 competitors in 2015 of which 16.000 were for the 42.195 km course, both numbers being an all-time record for the event. The rest of the runners competed in the concurrent 5 and 10 kilometers road races and the race walking contest.
The marathon course is based on the legend from which the race gained its name: Pheidippides, a messenger in Ancient Greece, ran from the Battle of Marathon to Athens to announce the Greeks' victory over the Persians. The provenance of the competitive race is traced back to the Marathon race at the 1896 Olympics. The Athens Classic Marathon began in 1972 as a joint venture between the Greek tourist board and athletics association. The race came under the auspices of the current organizers and SEGAS in 1983 and has since become a major race, being awarded Gold Label Road Race status by the IAAF.
It is perhaps the most difficult major marathon race: the course is uphill from the 10 km mark to the 31 km mark – the toughest uphill climb of any major marathon. The course begins in the town of Marathon, where it passes the tomb of the Athenian soldiers, and it traces a path near the coast through Nea Makri. Following the steep rise, the course goes lightly downhill towards the city of Athens. It passes a statue of a runner (Ο Δρομ?ας) in the city center before finishing up at the Panathinaiko Stadium; a site for athletics competitions in ancient times and the finishing point for both the 1896 and 2004 Olympic marathons.

Among all the Olympic sport events, the Marathon Race stands out as it was born by a true historic and heroic event.
It was a true triumph accomplished by a news-bearing foot soldier from ancient Athens, who announced - with his last words - the victory of the Greeks against the Persians during the Marathon Battle in 490 BC.
The 42,195m Marathon Race became one of the most competitive events during the revival of the Olympic Games in 1896. A Greek athlete named Spyros Louis, running what has ever since been referred to as the Original Marathon Course from the ancient city of Marathon to the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, won the gold medal of the first modern Olympic Games and became a legend of Greek and International Athletics. The Marathon Race has always had a prominent place in the hearts and minds of sports enthusiasts, as it represents the highest effort where the human body, soul and mind are tested to their limits as the runner presses himself/herself to reach the finish line.
SEGAS, the Hellenic Athletics Federation, has the honor and the historic responsibility to organize annually the Athens Classic Marathon on the Original Marathon Course. Since 1982, the Athens Classic Marathon has been dedicated to Gregoris Lambrakis, the athlete, scientist and Member of Parliament, who was murdered in the 60s and, after his death, became a symbol of Human Rights.
From the year 2011 onwards, OPAP S.A., the leading gaming operator in Greece and one of the major corporations in Greece and Europe, has been nominated Grand Sponsor of the event and its valuable support led to the significant upgrade of the race in all aspects.
Thousands of runners from all over the world are expected to participate in every year's race. Apart from the sporting experience, they will have the chance to enjoy the traditional Greek hospitality, discover the fascinating landscape of our country and explore a city which is constantly improving its standards.

The Boulogne-Billancourt Half Marathon (French: Semi-marathon de Boulogne-Billancourt) is an annual road running event over the half marathon distance which takes place in November in Boulogne-Billancourt, France.
The event was first organised in 1997 by the Athletic Club de Boulogne-Billancourt. The race steadily increased in size in its first years, attaining 1000 entrants by 2000 and doubling this number three years later. The Fédération française d'athlétisme classed it as a national level race in 2006 and following the participation of 4000 runners from 26 countries, it was raised to international race status the following year.
At the 2008 edition, Kenyan Nicholas Manza ran a race record time of 1:00:12 hours. A year later, Ethiopia's Firehiwot Dado became the first woman to complete the distance in under one hour and ten minutes, setting the women's course record of 1:09:26 hours. The 2011 race was the first run with IAAF Bronze Label Road Race status, marking it as one of the foremost races of its kind.
The course for the race is a looped circuit that starts and finishes at the town hall. It follows a clockwise route along the river Seine, passing the Sèvres - Cité de la céramique, Pont de Saint-Cloud. It heads north towards the Longchamp Racecourse and has a short loop through the Bois de Boulogne, where it reaches the halfway mark. At this point the course loops back on itself and follows the Seine in a southerly direction until it finally ends up at the town hall finish point.

Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund have partnered with the B.A.A. in the Half Marathon for 13 years as the race’s presenting sponsor. Through this relationship, team members have collectively raised more than $5 million to support groundbreaking cancer research, and enabled Dana-Farber scientists and clinicians to positively impact the lives of cancer patients around the world.
Dana-Farber runners often participate in honor or memory of a family member, friend, or colleague who has been touched by cancer. There are also many inspiring teammates who have been diagnosed themselves, and choose to run as a way to take physical action in the fight against cancer. Dana-Farber patients and their families also take part to provide incredible inspiration, and motivate runners to race toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
