| My training plan called for a 3rd round of intervals today after an already full week of training, cross training (spinning sessions) and some new core work. But I was feeling somewhat fatigued even though Fri was a recovery day so I “reset†to an easy running day. I’m a firm believer in the motto that you train to recover, and that training without the benefits of strength through complete recovery is wasted. Plus, planning on a 2-1/2 hr long run on Sunday. Photo is from the Danville Farmer’s Market after my morning run. The building is the old Danville train depot, which has been restored and is now a history museum. | Recovery run. I really need to work on my pacing because I tend to gravitate towards a moderate comfortable pace rather than running a really slow controlled recovery. That’s one reason I sometimes do recovery runs on a treadmill (to “force†maintaining that consistent pace). Getting better, but I need to learn to run these about 30 seconds/mile slower. Ran the first 3 miles easy (9:15, 8:03, 7:54), then decided to do 3 Miles uncomfortably hard (7:02, 6:45, 6:44), and then last 4 at comfortable hard “Marathon†pace (7:36, 7:18, 7:20, 7:34). Really enjoyed this workout, especially pushing it a little! |

| Track day! We have this crazy tradition where you run a speed mile (all out) sometime during your birthday month, and the rest of us pace you. Today we celebrated the birthday of a young guy (28) who is also pretty fast. Gulp. So the pacers ran it as a relay. I had lap 3, which we covered in a smidge over 76 seconds and he finished his mile at 5:22. (1:26, 1:24, 1:16, and 1:16)...Holy smokes! Photo is of our runner (middle), pacers and the timer. |
