We offer all running enthusiasts the opportunity to finish the running season with a beautiful run through Berlin. Even the unique backdrop of Schloss Charlottenburg would be reason enough to participate.
Then it went on an architecturally varied route, past the Gedächtniskirche and back to the finish in front of the Charlottenburg Palace. A special highlight of the run, offered the route through the Zoo Berlin, past lions, hippos and many other residents of Berlin Zoo.
The Great 10k Berlin underlined once more a fast route.Like every year, the runners could test their team spirit in the 2x5K relay and fight for the title of the fastest squadron of the Great 10k.
The children were allowed to participate in the running spectacle. The children's race takes place before the main run. After about 800m of the track, everyone at the Schlossplatz was rewarded with a medal and a small present.

The Great 10k Berlin

On October 12, 2008, BERLIN LÄUFT launched a premiere: the ASICS Grand 10 Berlin. Right away, there were 5,363 runners at the start. Thus, the event was the most successful newcomer of the year among the new German races. And the number of participants in the ASICS Grand 10 Berlin is rising significantly.Around 6,500 athletes were registered for the second edition.

Since then, the route of this 10 km race has been leading with start and finish at Charlottenburg Palace right through the capital. The trick is that the participants of this race walk a bit through the Berlin Zoo.Integrated in the ASICS Grand 10 Berlin is a 'tandem' squadron over 2x5 km.

"In the medium term we want to establish the ASICS Grand 10 Berlin as Germany's biggest 10 km run", says Gerhard Janetzky, Race Director of BERLIN LÄUFT.For the first time in May 2008, the organization successfully organized the long-standing 25-kilometer run in Berlin, the BIG 25 Berlin, with a destination at the Olympic Stadium. There is currently no really big, internationally important 10 km race in Germany compared to other countries - BERLIN LÄUFT wants to close this gap with the ASISC Grand 10 Berlin in the medium term.

The route of the ASICS Grand 10 Berlin is a city circuit including the following points: Ernst-Reuter-Platz, Siegessäule, Zoo, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Kantstraße and the Charlottenburg Palace, where the race also started becomes. The runners run across the Katharina-Heinroth-Ufer into the zoo. Then the route leads among other things past the enclosures of the rhinos and lion.Through the elephant gate it goes to the Olof-Palme-Platz.

The ASICS Grand 10 Berlin has a 'tandem' squadron integrated over 2x5 km.So here two runners can join together who share the 10-km distance. The transition zone of the two 5 km sections is located on Katharina-Heinroth-Ufer.The 2x5-km relay is open to all runners - co-workers, friends, acquaintances, neighbors or family members can join forces to form a 'tandem' squadron.

Long Beach Marathon

Those who completed the full marathon started in the dark at 6 a.m. Sunday. The course winds around Queensway Bay and Rainbow Harbor before sending runners eastward toward Belmont Shore, then northward past Alamitos Bay, Colorado Lagoon and Recreation Park before a turning east again so competitors can run around the Cal State Long Beach campus. From there, runners head down to Ocean Boulevard and let their legs power their bodies westward to return to the city’s shoreline area and the finish line near Marina Green Park.

Whereas Beneke pointed to the start of the race as a high point, Adan Ramos, 21, of Long Beach, singled out the final two miles and its cheering crowds for praise.

And after crossing the finish line, it was time for recovery and celebration.

“(I’m) a little sore, but I’ll be all right. I’ll be fine,” Jayson Warsuma, 33, of Los Angeles said after finishing the race.

Race results posted online show Warsuma completed the marathon in about three hours and 26 minutes. He acknowledged that he took things a little easy on a fairly hot day for running, but his aspirations include getting his marathon time below three hours.

Many runners’ race bibs bore their own names, but Kim Ho ran with the words “For Nathan” emblazoned below her number.

“Nathan is my son,” Ho, 46, of Long Beach said. “I’m with Train 4 Autism. I’m running for him and also a kid at Hamilton Middle School.”

Chip Jordan was the overall winner posting a time of 2:24:47. Mary Akor was the female winner with 2:46:49.

A good race with plenty of local support and nice running weather. However, considering the entry fee is more expensive than the London marathon, the goody bag was a REAL let down; one cloth bag and a protein bar....wow! It didn't even include a finishers' shirt (but you could buy one for £24 of course!). Limelight/Virgin need to shape up, or people will give this a miss in future.

Great to be back racing & this was a decent route with plenty of local support. A good medal but no goodie bag at the end and a real disappointment that no finishers t shirt was given out?

Mount Desert Island Marathon

Sunday October 19th, 2025
Bar Harbor, Maine
Distance: Marathon · Half Marathon · Marathon Relay · Kids Race
Offical Race Web Site

Our 26.2-mile foot race begins in downtown Bar Harbor, where the first mile out is slightly downhill, which will allow runners to warm up before the first hill; a 150-foot climb from mile one to mile three. This incline will carry runners over the ridge between Champlain and Dorr Mountains. Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the immediate Atlantic Coast at 1,532 feet, will cast its shadow on the early miles of the course.

Route 3 then gives back a downhill sweep from miles three to six in the village of Otter Creek, where runners meet the sea and those famous ragged cliffs & headlands at the southeast tip of the Island. The small hill from mile six to seven will not be noticeable because runners will enjoy spectacular scenery along the Hunters Beach Trail.

There is a long, gradual downhill from mile seven to mile nine, then a series of rolling, curving vistas which overlook Seal Harbor, and the Cranberry Isles. At mile 10 rolling hills reveal unparalleled scenes, and the village of Northeast Harbor is visible across the ocean. Runners will enter Northeast Harbor, one of six villages along the course --quaint and attractive all-- and reach the halfway mark just beyond the town.(Site of the Half-Marathon Start.)

The halfway point is also near the mouth of the only true fjord on the Atlantic Coast, lined with the pink granite that makes up most of the area, Somes Sound nearly bisects the entire Island. The second half of the race is literally on the edge of this remarkable topographical marvel.

The low point on the course, will come at mile 16 along the eastern shore of Somes Sound. This is followed by a slight rise to mile 17, and then a sharp incline from 17 to 18, heading up to the cliffs of the interior end of the fjord. Running hills makes for powerful camaraderie. Mile 19 is a giveback downhill, and then the gradual ascent from mile 20 to 25 begins in Somesville, the quintessential New England village.

Mile 25 will be the high point of the course, literally and figuratively, and affording great views. And it will be all downhill from there. The final 1.2 miles to the finish line in charming Southwest Harbor descends; yes, that last 2,000 meters will be all down. But what a sky-high feeling of accomplishment it will bring!

There is a barbeque at the end of the race, plenty of food, and even showers (though I didn't make use of them so I don't know what they were like). Afterwards, runners wore their finisher medals in Bar Harbor and it was great fun to bond with the other runners at dinner time.
