Distance: Marathon
Offical Race Web Site

The Taipei Marathon is an annual marathon held in Taipei, Taiwan, on the third weekend in December. The event has an Elite Label from World Athletics and has been held annually since 1986.

It is the preeminent long-distance annual running event in Taiwan.

On December 22, 1985, the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association organized a road running demonstration event that served as a warm-up for the first Taipei International Marathon.

The first Taipei International Marathon begins on March 9, 1986, with over 2,000 participants, including elite athletes from seven nations, running through the streets of Taipei. All of the starting and finishing points are on Ketagalan Boulevard.

The Taipei International Marathon ran until 1989, when it was forced to halt due to the construction of the Taipei Metro. It has spawned a new marathon race, held on National Freeway 3, which is currently closed to traffic. After the Taipei International Marathon resumed, the event was renamed "Taipei Freeway Marathon" and relocated to National Freeway 1.

Taipei International Marathon returns on November 14, 2001, with the starting and finishing points relocated to Taipei City Hall Square. The event was renamed "ING Taipei International Marathon" until 2008 after ING Aetna Insurance became the title sponsor in 2003.

Fubon Financial Holding Co. became the sponsor of the Taipei International Marathon in 2009. This year's race has 12,100 participants, the highest number in the event's history. The running route has also changed significantly, with the addition of a section of riverside park from Nangang to Songshan in 2011.

Runners battle frigid conditions at Boxing Day 10-Miler

Olympians, Canadian record holders and national cross-country champions were among those who braved the cold in southern Ontario for the Boxing Day 10-miler.

More than 800 participants were entered for the Dec. 26 road race in Hamilton, the first major event of winter, between the two distances. Tuesday’s race marked the 97th edition of the Boxing Day tradition. Conditions were frigid, with the windchill making temperatures feel like -22 C, according to the Weather Network.

Canadian steeplechase record holder and Olympian Matt Hughes won the 10-miler (16K) in 51:18 followed by two-time national senior cross-country champion Ross Proudfoot. Reid Coolsaet, a 2:10:28 marathoner and two-time Olympian, was third in 51:45.

Vancouver’s Robyn Mildren was the top woman in the 10-miler in 59:17 clocking an identical (gun) time as second-place finisher Carmen Hussar. Hussar was an Olympic finalist in the 1,500m at the 2004 Olympics and won a silver medal at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Amy Hicks was third at the B.D. 10-Miler in 1:00:22.

The event also included a 4-miler (6.4K) won by Jeff Dill (23:15) and Mary Unsworth (24:25).

A scenic course with downtown start and finish, the 10 mile event includes 6 miles of paved waterfront trail. The 4 mile event includes 1 mile of the waterfront trail.

NYRR Midnight Run

Neither rain nor wind could keep runners from starting 2019 on the move, as a crowd of more than 3,700 gathered in Central Park for the NYRR Midnight Run. The four-miler began at the stroke of midnight, sending runners into the new year with a 15-minute fireworks display at the start and a sparkling cider toast at the halfway mark.

Before midnight struck, runners could get into the spirit with a pre-race party on Rumsey Playfield. With a live DJ, stilt walkers, on-stage performances, and more, runners could get into the groove for their warm-up before heading into their corrals.

First to finish four miles in the new year was Luis Porto of Central Park Track Club – New Balance, completing the loop in 21:07. Breaking the tape on the women's side was Lindsay Crevoiserat of Glastonbury, CT in 23:27.
