The London Marathon was first run on March 29, 1981 and has been held in the spring of every year since 2010. It is sponsored by Virgin Money and was founded by the former Olympic champion and journalist Chris Brasher and Welsh athlete John Disley.
It is organized by Hugh Brasher (son of Chris) as Race Director and Nick Bitel as Chief Executive. Set over a largely flat course around the River Thames, the race begins at three separate points around Blackheath and finishes in The Mall alongside St. James's Park.
Since the first marathon, the course has undergone very few route changes. In 1982, the finishing post was moved from Constitution Hill to Westminster Bridge due to construction works. It remained there for twelve years before moving to its present location at The Mall.
TCS is the new sponsor taking over from Virgin Money starting from the 2022 race. Roughly 40,000 people took part in the 2021 race with another 40,000 doing the virtual race. More than 350,000 people entered the ballot to take part in the 2022 race.

History
Seas and land have divided the lacework geography of Istanbul into four pieces. Old Istanbul City and Galata in the shores of Golden Horn and previously different village now united residential districts are located along the straits of Bosphorus. As the smallest sea of the world, inhabited places along the shores of Marmara Sea shows the magnitude that the city has reached. The Old City is spread over the seven hills of the triangular peninsular surrounding it with 22km of city walls. This is a historical settlement area called Byzantine, New or Second Roman Empire, Constantinople or Polis over the years. Marmara and Golden Horn city wall partially vanished over time; the actual landside city walls, however, have relatively survived till today.

Course records set at 2018 Event
Geoffrey Kamworor fulfilled all expectations and consolidated his reputation as arguably the best road racer in the world below the marathon distance by winning his third title at the TCS World 10K in Bengaluru, India,on Sunday.
The Kenyan, the winner of the last two world half marathon titles and first man across the line in Bengaluru in 2012 and 2014, couldn’t challenge his course record of 27:44 on a hot and humid morning but crossed the line in 28:18 after impressively imposing his authority on the race just after the halfway point.
In sharp contrast to men’s race, the Elite International women’s contest was a close-fought three-way affair which only got decided in the final 500m as the first three runners home went under the former course record of 31:46 by Kenya’s Lucy Kabuu in 2014. The Kenya trio of Pauline Kamulu, Caroline Kipkirui and Agnes Tirop were accompanied by Ethiopia’s Netsanet Gudeta and Senbere Teferi.
Amongst the Elite Indian Women,Sanjivani Jadhav, set the course ablaze this hot morning in Bangalore, completing her race at 33:38, officially setting a new course record post a nine year interlude. Sanjivani, crossing the finish line at 33:38, bettered her previous time on the same course by2:35minutes, (her finish time at the TCS World 10K in Bangalore was earlier at 36:13 in 2016 when she was runner-up) and also ended ranked 10 amongst the overall elite women (international and Indian) in competition at this edition.
The last course record amongst the Indian elite women was set by Kavita Raut in the year 2009 with a time of 34:32, a record that Sanjivani was delighted at breaking sharing,“It feels great to create anewcourse record, and I know that Kavita Di (Kavita Raut) would be glad that it was me who broke this record as we are in the same academy and she has been a senior that I have looked upto for many years.”
An amazing marathon, we run through historic London starting in smaller villages, crossing the Thames River over the Tower Bridge (without question the greatest structure I have ever run over, under or beside) through downtown (Canary Wharf) and finally end up at Buckingham Palace. 70% of the runners run for charities and care more about having a good time rather than a good time. incredible fan support (seemed bigger than NYC or Chicago) and people dress up in costumes to entertain the spectators. I have run many marathons and this is my favorite."
