Falmouth Road Race

Sunday August 17th, 2025
Falmouth, Massachusetts
Distance: 1 Mile · 7 Miles
Offical Race Web Site

The Falmouth Road Race was established in 1973 and has become one of the premier running events of the summer season. Each year the race draws an international field of Olympians, elite runners and recreational runners out to enjoy the scenic 7-mile seaside course. The non-profit Falmouth Road Race organization is dedicated to promoting health and fitness for all in its community. Proceeds from the race each year support youth athletic programs in the town of Falmouth and other non-profit community groups.

Sponsored by New Balance. The little race that could belongs to Falmouth. It was first held on a Wednesday afternoon because that was founder Tommy Leonard's birthday. It is seven miles because that was the distance from the Captain Kidd in Woods Hole to Tommy's workplace: the Brothers Four in Falmouth Heights.

Considered one of the most beautiful races on the East coast. In addition it is one of the smallest races with running legends like Bill Rodgers, Frank Shorter, Joan Benoit, Meb Keflezighi showing up. Unfortunately it is very popular and hence, very difficult to get in and is based on a lottery. If you do make it, you will completely understand why it is one of my favorite races to run.
Bob Anderson
I really like this race. I had heard about it for years but did not run it until 2012. I just loved everything about this race. The town is a cool little place. It was hot the year I ran but it was a five star experience!

Falmouth Road Race

The race is seven miles long and begins in front of the Woods Hole Community Center, near the drawbridge on Water Street. The first three miles are narrow, hilly, winding tree-shaded roads, while the last four miles are open on the flat right next to Martha’s Vineyard Sound. A small steep hill lets you know that you are beginning the last half-mile of the race. Once you crest the hill it is “all downhill” to the finish.

  • Proceed out of Woods Hole, take a right onto Church Street, then wind around Nobska Lighthouse and continue along the hilly, tree-lined road
  • At three miles you emerge from the woods and continue for 1.5 miles along the beach, next to the waters of Vineyard Sound
  • Turn left onto Shore Street and 400 yards later turn right onto Clinton Avenue
  • Turn left onto Scranton Avenue, 600 yards later turn right onto Robbins Road to the top of Falmouth Harbor
  • At the end of Robbins Road, turn right onto Falmouth Heights Road and continue until you once again see the ocean
  • Last turn left, head up hill to Falmouth Heights and down to the finish line along Grand Avene at Falmouth Heights Beach

Stockholm Half Marathon

Saturday August 30th, 2025
Stockholm, Sweden
Distance: Half Marathon
Offical Race Web Site

Stockholm Half marathon has a unique course. Starting and running in the area between the castle, the Riksdaghuset and the Opera is special. And running in the middle of town is really a special feeling.

The half marathon in Stockholm has been called Stockholm Halvmarathon (Stockholm Half Marathon) since 2007 but the race is actually much older. In 1927, the year the first Volvo car was produced and Charles Lindbergh flew non-stop across the Atlantic, was when Stockholmsloppet (Stockholm Race) was launched.

The race was organised by athletic club Fredrikshof IF and the newspaper Stockholms Dagblad whose sports writer, Oscar Söderlund, came up with the idea of the competition.

The first race started and finished in the Olympic Stadium, later editions used the open-air museum of Skansen and the national football stadium in Råsunda.

The race was international and until its demise in 1955 one of the major events in Swedish distance running. From 1933-1936 Thore Enochsson won four times, before the Finn, Erkki Tamila followed up with three consecutive victories. In the 1950s Uno Gustavsson became the third man to win the race three times.

Stockholm Half Marathon

In 2007 the name of the race changed again to Stockholm Halvmarathon (Stockholm Half Marathon) and in 2010 to DN Stockholm Halvmarathon. DN is the sponsoring newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

In 2008 there were entries from over 9,000 runners and 30% were women. Over a thousand came from outside Sweden.

The positive growth has steadily continued and in 2013 there were 17,163 participants, a record number for the race. Other records in 2013 were:
• entries from 78 nations
• 2,559 overseas entries, 15% of the total participants
• 6,512 female participants, 38% of the total field.

Jungfrau Marathon

The first 10 km of the course is flat. The race begins in central Interlaken and circles around the town centre before moving east to Bönigen, where runners briefly run along the shore of Lake Brienz.

The race proceeds southwards to Wilderswil at the 10km mark. From there the course heads upward through Zweilütschinen (at 15km) to Lauterbrunnen (at 20km). The course loops for 5km south of the town before returning to Lauterbrunnen and then heading eastward up the alpside. It is at this point that the race is steepest, zigzagging up the hillside and climbing 450m in the 5km to Wengen.

The course heads southeast and relentlessly upward over the Wengernalp, turning east and then northeast beneath the Eiger toward the finish. It reaches its highest point of 7,234 feet around the 40km point, and then heads steeply downhill for the last kilometre to the finish at Kleine Scheidegg at an altitude of 2061m.
