Distance: Marathon
Offical Race Web Site
The Beppu-Oita Marathon is an annual men's marathon race that takes place every February between the cities of Beppu and Oita on the island of Kyushu in Japan. First held in 1952 as a 35km race, the looped marathon course begins at the bottom of Takasaki Mountain and reaches Beppu's Kankoko International Port before turning back towards the finishing point in the Aita Municipal Athletic Stadium. The race has IAAF Silver Label Road Race status. The event is sponsored by the The Mainichi Newspapers Co. and is formally known as the Beppu-Ota Mainichi Marathon.
The marathon race attracts approximately 500 entrants each year, of whom around two-thirds finish the course. The large majority of the runners are Japanese, or Japanese-based. A small number of international athletes are invited to compete each year, although other foreign athletes also appear in the race for pace setting purposes. An additional road race, the Beppu-Oita Mainichi Half Marathon, was held in conjunction with the main race between 1976 and 2001.

The course for this competition marathon race starts and ends at the Oita Municipal Athletic Stadium, and the halfway point is set at the Beppu Kankoko International Port. It is a rather easy course to run as most of the course is on flat land. This course will thus be the first step to a successful career for new runners.
At the Beppu Oita Everyday Marathon (then Beppu Marathon), Yasuo Ikenaka (deceased) from Nakatsu city, Oita Prefecture, who served as the Olympic representative coach in 1952 during the postwar reconstruction period said, "In order to open the way to the Olympics I would like to hold a nationwide competition locally in the city. "Initially it started ahead of Beppu station, it was a 35 km course that folded Shiraki Oita city.In the following 53 year twice tournament it is changed to a full marathon. It began to be called the Japan's three major classic races with the "Biwako Daily Marathon" (then marathon every day), which started in 46 years, and the "Fukuoka International Marathon" (then Asahi Marathon) that started in 1974.
In the 12th tournament tournament, Toru Terazawa (Kurashiki Les) set the world record of 2 hours 15 minutes 15 seconds 8, which is 0 seconds 4 above the record of Abe (Ethiopia). This record is the last marathon world record recorded by Japanese athletes in the domestic race. After that, Terasawa accomplished four consecutive victories until the competition 15 times.
Kenji Kimihara (Yawata Steel) won the domestic highest of 2 hours 13 minutes 33 seconds 4 in the 67th year 16th tournament, and Shoumo (Asahi Kasei) won 2 hours 9 minutes 5 seconds 6 at the 27th rally in 1982, It broke the first time "wall of 10 minutes".

From the 50th memorial tournament in 2001 it was the race for the world championship selection.Started in front of Takasakiyama · Uimitago in Oita-shi from 59th convention for 10 years, and it changed significantly to the course which finishes to Oita municipal track and field stadium. From the next 60 tournaments, the marathon was relaxed within 3 hours and 30 minutes, and the girls also opened the door.
In the 12th 62th tournament, Yuuki Kawanai (Saitama Prefectural Government Office) and Kentaro Nakamoto (Yaskawa Electric) deploy intense dead heat from 28 kilograms past 40 kilometers.Kawachi won the tournament record for the first time in 17 years, 2 hours 8 minutes 15 seconds, Nakamoto also entered second place at his best 2 hours 8 minutes 35 seconds, both of whom won the title of the world championship.
In the 16th year 65th tournament, it changed to a course that makes it easy to get a good record by eliminating the blind alley in Oita city and reducing the height difference of the final stage. We also held a marathon national election visit to the Rio de Janeiro-Paralympic Games.
34 years old veteran, Kentaro Nakamoto (YASKAWA Electric Co., Ltd.) won the first victory with a favorable time of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 32 seconds in the 17th 66th tournament.Nakamoto is the first vertex of the marathon for the 14th time.He was also chosen as representative of the world championship London tournament.

Over the past 16 years of the existence of the current Miami Marathon, there was only just over 90 athletes who had run every single event. Before the inception of the Miami Marathon as we know it now (est. 2003), the race was originally known as the Orange Bowl Marathon which began in the late 1970s. One of our very own 16-year #MiamiFamous loyal runners, Kenneth Royster, has run every single marathon held in Miami. Yes, that means he has run every Miami Marathon held during the past 40 years – that’s what you call Miami loyalty!
A retired airline pilot from Miami, Royster started running in 1974 and has completed close to 100 marathons since his debut to the sport in 1977. He has completed numerous events across the country – 5Ks/10Ks, marathons, 50K trail races and about every distance in between. Back in the late 70s/early 80s, the medals resembled more of a coin shape (usually with no date) instead of the medal and neck ribbon type of award we see today.
The original Miami marathon has changed quite drastically over the years including changes to the event name, the medal designs, demographics, anda variety of routes year after year, to name a few. “I remember these lean times of less than 1000 runners, starting at Tropical Park and running through the uninspiring suburbs of southwest Miami”, Royster recalled. “I remember at least one starting on South Beach. The route changed several times. [T]he event was cancelled in 1995 and not held again until the modern era starting in 2003.”
Check out how the name has changed over the years!
1977 – 1986, Orange Bowl Marathon
1987 – 1988, American Savings Orange Bowl Marathon
1989 – 1994, Metro-Dade Marathon
1995, Doral-Ryder Metro-Dade Marathon
2003 – 2005, Toyota Prius Miami Tropical Marathon
2006 – 2013, ING Miami Marathon
2014 – 2017, Miami Marathon
2018 – 2019, Fitbit Miami Marathon
Today the Fitbit Miami Marathon attracts over 20,000 runners from over 70 countries and all 50 U.S. states. Going on to the 17thyear of the event we know today, race organizers are diligently planning to make 2019 even bigger and better than prior years. We are happy to welcome back Kenneth and his fellow #MiamiFamous loyalty runners back for their 17thconsecutive partaking in the event, as well as many more veteran runners and first-timers!

The Alsager 5 mile race started in 1985 and was called the Butters 5 starting and finishing outside the estate agents town center premises .Always held on the first Sunday in February.
Popular from day one as entries continued to grow it was time to move the race HQ to the Leisure Center one mile down the road.
This happened in 1991 and the race stills starts and finishes at the Leisure Center.
The number of entries continued to climb and now has a 1000 limit which is always reached with race full signs happening before race day.
A flat fast course Alsager is ideal to see how your winter training has gone or if you have just taken up running this is a great first race as it attracts all abilities and all are welcome .
This race not only attracts local runners but also runners from outside the area . It is also the curtain raiser to North Staffs Road Runners first race of the season.
Things got easier for the organizers in 2014 when chip timing was introduced, we sometimes wonder how we managed when it was manual timing with runners finishing one a second and using our 3 lane system.

Description: Marathon by the Mile
Miles 1–2: Huntington Beach Pier & Main Street
Start on Pacific Coast Highway between the ocean and the Hilton Waterfront Beach Hotel. Running north, the Huntington Beach Pier and Main Street are less than a mile away. Look to the left to enjoy the famous Huntington Beach Pier. The next time you see it, you will be on the beachfront running path at mile 25!
Miles 2–9: Huntington Central Park
Just past the second-mile marker, at the first retro surf band station, turn inland on Seapoint and head for Huntington Central Park. On this stretch, you will encounter the course’s only incline, between miles 3 and 4. But take heart; there are hundreds of kids at the park, waiting to cheer you on! They love marathon runners and get up early every year to come to the park, hand out water and yell words of encouragement! These will be your biggest fans!Feeding off energy from the kids in the park, head down Seapoint back toward the ocean. Enjoy the ocean view all the way down to PCH.
Miles 9–15: Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve
Just past mile nine, take a right on PCH and absorb the energy from the ocean! Breathe in the fresh sea air as you continue north on the highway. The Bolsa Chica Reserve wetlands roll out to the right. This 300-acre ecological wonder is a sanctuary for wildlife and migratory birds. Bolsa Chica, along with the rest of Huntington Beach, CA, has some of the nation’s best birding! Nearly half of the birds found in the U.S. have been seen in Huntington Beach. Sightings of great blue herons, snowy egrets and brown pelicans are common; lucky bird watchers can even spot a rare white pelican at the right time of the year.
Miles 16–25: Beachfront Running Path
Starting on mile sixteen, the course leaves Pacific Coast Highway and continues on a beachfront running path paved right over the sand! These are the same beaches where the legends of surf movies and music were made. Observe local surfers in their natural habitat with the waves crashing just yards away. Run all the way back to the pier, where a crowd of spectators will be cheering from above!
The Last Mile: A Spectacular Finish
After turning at the pier, work your way up through the lifeguard station back to Pacific Coast Highway. As you come on to the highway, you will be less than a mile from the finish line. It’s a straight shot from there, and the finish line banner is just ahead. Spectators line the highway to cheer you to the finish line!
Things to Know
About eight miles of the marathon course runs on the multi-purpose beachfront running path that winds through the legendary surfing beaches of Southern California. This public path is not part of the closed course and you may encounter walkers, bicyclists, and others who are not participating in the race. It is only 8 feet wide in some places, which is why we limit the marathon event to 2,000 participants.
Special Note to Wheelchair Athletes: We request wheelchair participants select our Half Marathon course. Wheelchair participants will be the first to start on Sunday at 6:28 AM. If you are an adaptive athlete and would like further information please email us atrunsurfcity@motivsports.com.We will be happy to assist you.
The first seven miles is in Golden Gate Park, then we run along the Pacific Ocean. You couldn't ask for a more scenic and famous route. Good course and a fun time. I have run this race five times.
