What is Global Running Day? Global Running Day is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving. It doesn’t matter how fast you run or how far you go—what’s important is that you take part, and how you do it is up to you. Run a lap around your block, take your dog for a long walk, or call your friends for a pick-up game in the park. The important thing is that you have fun being active—and you inspire others to join you.
Global Running Day was formerly known as National Running Day and began in the United States. The first event was in 2009.
The inaugural Global Running Day was held on June 1, 2016. More than 2.5 million people from 177 countries pledged to run more than 9.2 million miles. New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, declared June 1, 2016 to be Global Running Day in the City of New York. 2014 Boston Marathon winner Meb Keflezighi led a group run from the Boston Run Base, and the Atlanta Track Club organized a “run around the clock” event, where at least one person from the Atlanta metro area would be running every hour of Global Running Day

The Baltimore 10-Miler course is a loop course that starts and finishes at the scenic Druid Hill Park, home of the Maryland Zoo. There is plenty of on-site parking, and those who plan their travels and arrive early will enjoy the sweet sounds of summer in the park as they arrive and prep for the start.
Runners have 3 hours to complete the course, a running pace of 18:00 minutes per mile, and enjoy a wave start whichallows runners to thin out and gain some elbow room as they begin their journey of north Baltimore. The course travels on many of the same roads used on the Baltimore Marathon course andsomerunners use this race as a preview of what’s to come in the fall. The out-and-back pattern of the course runs many of the same roads in each direction. The turn around point is along the spacious and flat path around Lake Montebello, always a fan favorite with its nice scenery, wide and newly paved roadways and the band or DJ that Corrigan Sports plops at the courses furthest point from the startline.
Runners return to Druid Hill knowing a cold towel, delicious watermelon and adult beverages await them after they conquer Mile 9. It’s not like running in Kansas or on the boardwalk at the beach, but more than 20,000 runners have completed the course and lived to brag about it. You will too!

This is a great 100k for long distance runners of all abilities, cut-off times are generous and a fair number of fast walkers take part each year. The course is undulating but not very tough, a number of off-road stretches exist, and this can be an excellent race for anyone wanting to try their first 100k. Despite it taking place mostly at night (even at night temperatures can easily be above 20 deg. ° ) the atmosphere when running through towns and villages is great and plenty of food any drink is available at checkpoints. Wellorganized and very friendly race.

There is camping in Moran State Park and it is all first come/first served. There is NO CAMPING, including car camping at the start/finish area. Moran State Park has a retreat center that Rainshadow will rent out for the weekend. The bunkhouses are heated, but anyone staying there will need to bring bedding (sheets, sleeping bags, pillows, fuzzy bunny slippers, etc.), and anything else you might want for the weekend.
Anyone staying in the bunkhouses should also bring a headlamp, or two, as being able to see where you're going in the pitch dark is highly recommended. The Rosario Resort & Spa is the closest hotel, within a couple miles of the race start. There are hotels in nearby Eastsound as well as numerous Airbnb options. Doe Bay Resort and Retreat is a short 5-10 minute drive from Moran State Park and offers tent camping, cabins, and year-round yurts.
Aid stations always feature plenty of water, potato chips, PB&J, fresh fruit (oranges, bananas, grapes), chocolate/candy, GU gels and GU Brew, tortillas for gluten-free folks, and tasty Trail Butter inside those tortillas. We'll also have Coke and Ginger Ale. You can also pack your preferred calories in drop bags, and/or carry them with you along the course.
Every male and female race winner receives a one-of-a-kind race print, and a hand-etched growler.

You will need a DISCOVER PASS to park in Moran State Park. You can buy an annual pass for $30 via this link: discoverpass.wa.gov/ or you can buy a day pass for $10 at the Cascade Lake day use area on the island.
I have been running since Feb 19, 1962. I have run over 1000 races, some being just fun runs and others being big races like the Boston and New York City Marathon. Running has been and continues to be a very important part of my life. National Running Week started in 2009 and it soon became obvious that it needed to be a global affair. In 2016 it was officially declared by the Mayor of New York City to be Global Running Day. It is important that we have our special day to help bring more attention to running.
