About the course.

Designed to be a course with some hills in it — and to take runners in a northward direction toward the hilly northern sections of the city — the race takes runners by many of San Antonio’s most popular sights.

The race begins near the city’s Henry Gonzalez Convention Center, along Market Street, and then the course heads southwest briefly through downtown San Antonio, weaving through Dolorosa, Flores Street, La Trinidad Street, and East Travis Street (just a block away from the famed Alamo site).

After the first three miles, the course then heads north for the middle portion and a modest uphill climb toward Brackenridge Park, San Antonio’s largest park.

After completing the stretch of the course around the park, runners turn onto Broadway Street, where they run a straightaway for nearly two miles before making a few turns near Lockwood and Dignowity Parks before continuing south down Cherry Street.

Full marathoners continue further south down Cherry Street and into the southern (and flatter) part of the city.

The half-marathoners are almost home, however, and have only two miles more to go to the finish. After the turn on Cherry, half marathoners continue for about half a mile before turning right onto Montana Street. There, runners past the Alamodome before crossing the finish line at the Tower of Americas.

In addition to the full marathon and half marathon for individual runners, the race also hosts a two-person relay for the half marathon, for men’s, women’s and coed teams.

California International Marathon

Sunday December 7th, 2025
Sacramento, CA
Distance: Marathon
Offical Race Web Site

The California International Marathon (CIM) is a marathon organized by runners, for runners! CIM was founded in 1983 by the Sacramento Running Association (SRA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The SRA Board of Directors is comprised of runners with a combined total of 150+ years of service to the CIM.

The same route SRA management created for the 1983 inaugural CIM will take you through rural countryside, then through the towns of Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks and Carmichael and finally, under a canopy of trees in full fall colors, into the city of Sacramento for the State Capitol finish. Even though the course has remained the same, the race has grown into a true international event.

CIM has a gently rolling, point-to-point, net downhill course with well maintained streets and few turns. The CIM start is at a 366 ft. elevation and its finish at a 26 ft. elevation.

CIM has steadily grown in numbers from a field of 1,600 runners in 1983 to a race that now fills to a capacity of more than 9,000 marathoners. Over the years, the SRA has added a four-person relay (over 1,000 teams now compete) and a 2.62-mile maraFUNrun held in the spirit of fitness and fun for 2,000 participants. Both of these events are a component of SRA’s mission to expose people of all ages to the benefits of a healthy lifestyle through running.

The SRA Board of Directors, race management and volunteers work thousands of hours year-round to ensure that all runners have the best marathon experience possible, whether you are an experienced elite racer, mid-packer or are running for your first marathon finisher’s medallion. We look forward to seeing you in December!

Welcome!

I've run this marathon twice, and they offer a relay which I've run 3 times. For the most part this course is flat & fast. The aid stations are what you should expect from a marathon, the start & finish are very well organized, and it's a small enough field of runners that you don't have a slow-down at the start in finding your pace. Weather is always a toss-up but directors can't control that.

Running to Honor "The Father of Long-Distance Running"

Undeterred by the season’s first snowfall, thousands of runners turned out for today’s NYRR Ted Corbitt 15K in Central Park. The overall winners were Teshome Mekonen in 44:43 and Belaynesh Fikadu in 54:36. Many members of local running clubs took part today in 2017’s finalclub points raceof the year. The running community will celebrate the top runners and teams of 2017 atNYRR Club Nighton February 1.

Congrats to our #tedcorbitt15k winners Teshome Mekonen in 44:43, and Belaynesh Fikadu 54:36!

Among today's finishers was Gary Corbitt, Ted Corbitt’s son, who has dedicated much of the 10 years since his father’s death to preserving his father’s legacy. Gary spoke at theNYRRRUNCENTER featuring the NB Run Hubthis week about Ted’s dedication not only to running but to health and wellness (he worked full time as a physical therapist) and to building an inclusive community.

“I had a lot of exposure to road racing back in the late 1950s and early 60s,” said Gary, 66. “A big road race back then was 35 runners, and refreshments were not in the mix—people would run marathons with no water.” We’ve come a long way!
To honor Ted Corbitt's commitment to community health and wellness, NYRR hosted a coat drive to benefitNew York Cares, with drop-offs at theNYRRRUNCENTERduring race week and at today’s race.
Many runners and volunteers rounded out their 2017 racing today, completing their 9+1 with either a run or volunteer stint (THANK YOU!). There’s one final Central Park race left on NYRR’s December calendar: theNYRR Midnight Runon December 31. Ring in the New Year with us and get your final 9+1 credit for guaranteed entry to the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon!
