Runner’s World Magazine Founder turns 70

Bob Anderson started running in 1962. In 1963 he ran the 880 at the AAU Junior Olympics and finished first in 2:08.5. He was hooked. By 1964 he wanted to run the Boston Marathon but he didn’t know how to train. He started writing runners asking for advice. With all this info he decided to start a magazine in Oct 1965. His first issue of Distance Running News came out Jan 1966. He changed the name to Runner’s World in 1970 and built readership to over two million before selling RW in 1984.
