Florence Marathon, Ethiopian Bekele triumphs. Among women the British Piasecki wins
The 36th Asics Florence Marathon was won by Sahlesilassie Bekele in 2h10'14. The Kenyan record James Kutto remains undefeated from 2006 in 2h08'40 '' Bekele went close to improving his personal, touched by 4 seconds: immediately after the finish line he collapsed to the ground, exhausted but happy.
Among the women, the British Jess Piasecki crossed the finish line in 2h25'29 '': she was making her debut in Florence. The record of Lonah Chemtai Salpeter (2h24'16 '' recorded in 2018) still exists.
The men's podium is completed with the Kenyan Asbel Kipsang (2h11'55 ''), already winner in Florence in 2014, and with the Moroccan Hicham Boufars (2h13'29 ''), in his fourth participation in Florence. In second place for Dinknesh Mekash Tefera (2h26'47 '' for the Ethiopian) and third for the Kenyan Salina Jebet (2h30'28 '').
