Australian Marathon finishing times are getting Slower

New research shows the average time for an Australian marathon runner is on a steady decline, with researchers stating the result is "highly correlated" with an overall decline in the population's physical health. Former competitive runner and Danish statistician Jens Jakob Andersen analysed all available finishing times from marathons run in Australia between 2000 and 2016: a total of 183,061 finishers from 154 races. He found average marathon times got slower going from 3:33:59 to 4:08:15 for men and 3:56:38 to 4:32:38 for women. "We found that all levels of runners were slowing down," Andersen said
