The Run The World Global Challenge is a world-wide celebration of running. Lifetime runner, Runner's World magazine and My Best Runs founder, Bob Anderson (71) created the event to help further spread the word about the benefits of running. "Since I started running in 1962 I have been telling people about the sport I love. I am proud to say I have reached a lot of people but the task is never done. Run The World is my current project. The feedback on this event from around the world has been very positive," says Bob Anderson. "This is why we wanted to expand it to reach more people, make it more fun and more challenging."
Already 260 Run The World runners have run and logged 85,876 miles (as of Feb 5, 2019) since July 4th in 56 different countries. In the little country of Palau alone our teams there have already run and logged 5,648 miles.
"Run The World Challenge is a great motivator," says Bob. "I was running 20 miles a week before Run The World. I now am averaging 32 miles weekly and I am much better shape because of it. There are many such stories among the 260 runners who have already participated." The first team that started July 4 to circle the world (24,901 miles) finished in 36 days 23 hours and 13 minutes (the current world record). Two other teams starting August 29 and October 29 also completed the goal.
How does it work? Participants run or walk and then log in those miles (k’s) on their My Best Runs account. It can take less than one minute to log your workout. The goal is for the team (now group of teams) to log enough miles (k's) to circle the world. That is 24,901 miles (40,074K).
There are a couple of changes in the format:
The process of running/walking and then logging in miles (k's), making a comment (optional) and posting a photo (optional) is the same. A team member logs into their free My Best Runs account to log in the miles they run. (If you do not have a free My Best Runs account, you need to set that up first because that is where the miles are logged. If you already have an account, just login and then sign up for RTW4.)
We will continue to track individual miles and miles run in different countries. All runners (regardless of your team) will be tracked individually. All miles run in different countries will also be tracked separately like before.
One major change is the event will end 30 days after starting. It is hoped we will reach our goal within this time frame but if not we will stop March 30th at midnight PST. RTW4 starts when your clock says March 1 and ends when the clock in California strikes midnight March 30.
All runners will be part of a 14 person team. Pick the team of your choice. There will be 14 different teams (with a maximum of 14 runners per team) making up a group. One very unique aspect of RTW4 is that one person can be on one team, two or three teams. BUT the teams have to be in different groups. When you run, let say five miles, these same miles only need to be entered once and they will appear on all your teams.
RUN THE WORLD 4 GLOBAL CHALLENGE starts March 1, 2019
For Run The World 4 three groups of 14 teams each will be competing against each other.
When the event ends the team among all three groups that have logged the most miles will be declared the winner. The group of teams that reach 24,901 miles first within 30 days will be declared the winner.
Registration is now open. The cost is $25 per team. You can sign up for one team, two or three but they have to be in different groups. When you log your miles (k's) once the same miles will be posted to all your teams.
You need to set up a free My Best Runs account. You need to enter your real name, email, birthday and location. This is where you log in your miles (k's) and post your comment and photo.

Log in or create an account first, then you can select your group and sign up for RTW #4
RUN THE WORLD 4 GLOBAL CHALLENGE starts March 1, 2019
Below are the RTW4 teams. Once we reach 14 runners on a team, that team is full. One person can be part of one, two or on three different teams as long as the teams are in different groups. Be sure you meet the qualifications of the group before March 1.
Registration starts Wednesday Feb 5. The cost is $25 per team. You can sign up for one team, two or three but they have to be in different groups. When you log your miles (k's) once the same miles will be posted to all your teams. If you would like to be a team leader, contact Bob Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org or a leader will be selected from those who sign up.
