Puma is collaborating with First Mile to produce sportswear collection made from recycled plastic

The Puma and First Mile collaboration is bringing runners clothing made from recycled yarn and has reused almost 2 million bottles in the process.

The First Mile is an initiative which spans Taiwan, Honduras and Haiti and collects bottles for reuse in hopes of reducing pollution and creating sustainable jobs.

Puma is collaborating with First Mile to produce a sportswear collection made from recycled plastic.

The project isn’t just about turning plastic into clothing, Puma says it’s also rooted in social impact and human connection—one that threads people together around a decision to do better. First Mile is working to ensure that bottles are sorted, cleaned, shredded, and turned into yarn that makes products runners can feel good about.

“Even though one of the key benefits of this partnership is social impact, the Puma and First Mile program has diverted over 40 tonnes of plastic waste from landfills and oceans, just for the products made for 2020.

This roughly translates into 1,980,286 plastic bottles being reused,” said Stefan Seidel, Head of Corporate Sustainability for the company. “The pieces from this co-branded training collection range from shoes, tees, shorts, pants and jackets—all the apparel is made of at least 83 per cent to even 100 per cent from the more sustainable yarn sourced from First Mile.”

The first Puma x First Mile training collection will be available as of February 21 on PUMA.com and at the Hudson’s Bay Company and Sport Chek across Canada.
