The World Marathon Challenge ® is a logistical and physical challenge to run seven marathons on seven continents in seven days.

Competitors must run the standard 42.2 km marathon distance in Antarctica, Africa, Australia, Asia, Europe, South America and North America within 168 hours, or seven days. The clock starts when the first marathon begins in Antarctica.

  • The World Marathon Challenge is the only annual event that offers the opportunity to run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days.
  • The first marathon occurs within the Antarctic Circle on mainland Antarctica and the final marathon takes place in Miami, North America.
  • The global route is Novo (Antarctica), Cape Town (Africa), Perth (Australia), Dubai (Asia),Madrid (Europe),Santiago (South America) and Miami (North America)
  • After the initial marathon in Antarctica, competitors fly by charter plane to every marathon location around the globe.
  • Successful participants are recognised by the Intercontinental Marathon Club®, which provides the definitive list of people who have run 7 marathons on 7 continents within 7 days.
  • There is a competition element within the trip - the fastest combined marathon times, or average marathon time, for male and female categories are declared the outright winners of the overall challenge.
  • Participants run 295 km (183 miles) over the seven-day period and spend about 48 hours in the air.

31-Jan Flight to Novo, Antarctica at 0800 hrs. Marathon start at 1300 hrs.
1-Feb Marathon in Cape Town at 0800 hrs + Flight to Perth at 1700 hrs
2-Feb Marathon in Perth at 2100 hrs + Flight to Dubai at 0845 hrs
3-Feb Marathon in Dubai at 2100 hrs + Flight to Madrid at 1115 hrs
4-Feb Marathon in Madrid at 1800 hrs + Flight to Santiago at 0330 hrs

Competing again in 2019 is Michael Wardian

Michael is a 44-year-old endurance athlete from Arlington, VA. He was the 2017 World Marathon Challenge champion with an astounding average time of 2:45:57 and has run a marathon best of 2:17:49. Michael has taken part in some of the most difficult races around the world such as the Marathon des Sables, Badwater 135, UltraTrail Mont Blanc(UTMB), Spartathlon, Hardrock 100 miler & Western States, and has won numerous world medals at ultramarathon running. He is married to Jennifer and has 2 boys, Pierce & Grant, and Rosie their Vizsla.
