Bastia Umbra, Italy
Distance: Half Marathon
In December 1978, members of the Aspa team put their ideals for the first time in the street (a healthy practice and dissemination of amateur racing activities with countless benefits on psycho-physical health) by organizing a racing on the road called INVERNALISSIMA a challenge to the cold and the mistrust with which amateur sport was seen in those years. It was still in the beginning, in Umbria, as in the rest of Italy, until then the sport thought and seen was that of television and full stadiums, professional athletes who were only to win the victory.
Many, from outside, saw the uselessness of what those people did, even when they were old and often lacking particular athletic skills, ran all those miles so as not to win anything and reach the finish line maybe 1.999th place. And only those who attended could know the usefulness: the joy of being there, and the feeling of being alive regardless of the position in the standings. This is the story, but the present of Aspa speaks the same language: only numbers change, constantly grown.
